Live Well. Be Well.

Since 2000, Pink Pony’s mission has been to reduce disparities in cancer care and ensure that access to quality treatment is available to everyone at an earlier, more curable stage. As part of this year’s fight against cancer, we want to inspire a proactive approach to health, including preventative cancer care. When we each take steps, no matter how small, to take care of ourselves and our loved ones, we contribute to creating a life well lived
“When someone we love has cancer, we are all affected – husbands, wives, mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, and friends. This is our effort in the fight against cancer.”

Dr. Harold Freeman, known as the “father of patient navigation,” is a cancer surgeon who has had a longstanding career advocating for and advancing access to equitable healthcare. He served as the director of surgery at Harlem Hospital from 1974 to 1999 before he became the founding director of the National Cancer Institute’s Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities. In 2003, he became the cofounder of our first centre: Ralph Lauren’s Center for Cancer Care in Harlem in New York City. In 2019, this centre was officially absorbed into Memorial Sloan Kettering, becoming the MSK Ralph Lauren Center. He is also a former president of the American Cancer Society and a Professor Emeritus of Surgery at Columbia University. In 1990, the American Cancer Society established the Dr. Harold P. Freeman Award to recognise his extensive work in pioneering the patient-navigation model created to address disparities in access to timely diagnosis and treatment.
“Patient navigation ensures that at the very first indicator of an abnormal finding, and along the entire journey of care, patients are supported by trained navigators working to eliminate any barrier to timely diagnosis and treatment.”

“When I became a surgeon in 1979, most people who were newly diagnosed had late-stage cancer. Today, the majority of patients we see are diagnosed with early-stage disease, which is much more curable.”
